Winter holidays are a great time for gathering to enjoy the excitement of the season. During this time of year, we have the opportunity to turn off the screens and spend quality time in our local Texas community, with family and our friends. To warm to get in the spirit of season? Pick up some iced coffee or toss caution into the wind and grab that hot cocoa anyway. Either way visiting the thousands of twinkle lights in Austin are a sure-fire way toto get you in the mood.
Whether you choose Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza or celebrate another holiday, the traditions of the season are fun to celebrate! There are multiple Christmas light displays all over Texas such as Austin’s Trail of Lights at Zilker Park and Mozart’s Coffee’s Light Show which is perfectly choreographed to holiday music. Drive out to the Texas Hill Country, visit Don Strange Ranch, and do not forget the spectacular free Holiday Lights on the Riverwalk display in San Antonio Texas. Fun conversations, long laughs and taking a moment away from our habits will be a gift to yourself and others.
Christmas lights are festive and beautiful at home too! When you deck the halls this holiday season, be fire smart. Holiday decorations, and candles all contribute to an increased risk of house fires during the colder months. As a reminder be sure to check your Christmas lights, even the new ones, before hanging them. All the bulbs should be in working order and no frayed wires, broken sockets, or loose connections. When putting up lights use extension cords designed for the outdoors, be sure they are plugged into a GFCI outlet, and avoid overloading cords. Always review the manufacturers suggestions when installing your holiday lights. Be sure to put your candles and turn off twinkle lights when you go to bed or leave the house to reduce fire risk.
Go ahead and get carried away with decorating and review the following tips from NFPA to help protect against fire hazards in your home
