Low miles discount We have several insurance companies that base your auto premium on your annual mileage and daily driving habits. So if you drive less than the average person, retired, work from home, live downtown, own a classic car used for Sunday drives - you are rewarded with lower insurance rates. Also if you bike, walk and or use public transporation such as Via, Capital Metro or the Capital MetroRail on a regular basis - you can also save on insurance rates.
Green Home Discount
With the new GreenHome Upgrade, you can add additional protection to your existing Travelers policy – protection that will help you repair, replace or rebuild with green materials after a loss. And if your home or condo is already certified green by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, you could save 5% on your premiums. If your home is damaged or destroyed by a covered accident or peril, Travelers will pay an additional amount toward costs associated with green materials and methods. So if your recipe for chicken flambé results in kitchen flambé, you could repair the damage with sustainable resources including cabinets crafted from recycled materials, Energy-Star appliances, or paints made from zero VOC (volatile organic compound). We’ll also help pay to have the debris recycled and have your home certified (or re-certified) green after a loss.
Environment
Progressive (NYSE: PGR) has worked with the Arbor Day Foundation to establish a program in which Progressive plants one sapling tree in a U.S. forest for every online customer who chooses to use less paper by paying their bills electronically. Since the program began 1.5 million trees have been planted. .

Travelers personal lines, a member of St. Paul Travelers (NYSE:STA), announced plans to implement a 10 percent discount* on auto insurance to hybrid Texas vehicle owners. Travelers is the first auto insurance company to begin implementing a discount for hybrid owners nationwide.

Whether boaters are interested in a quieter boating experience, or if they are seeking environmentally friendly boating solutions that help save money on annual fuel costs, electric boats can provide the right alternative for this segment of boaters.
Green Boating Tips Your watercraft insurance policy may provide coverage for fuel spill and pollution liability but there are many other things you can do to help the environment.
- Maintain a clean bilge – don’t pump oily water overboard.
- Clean safely – Use detergent sparingly. Environmentally responsible boat cleaning products can be found at www.greenseal.org.
- Observe all local and federal sewage regulations.
- Do routine maintenance – keep up with the routine maintenance on your boat, just like you do with your automobile.
- Chart your course responsibily – prevent damage to sensitive sea habitats and reduce fuel waste due to misdirection.
- Stow your trash – take your garbage home, including fishing line and cigarettes.
- Recycle your waste – properly dispose of your batteries and other waste materials.
- Carry a spill kit.
- Report pollution.
These are just several in a series of changes made in an effort to support our environment.
